Mustard Seed Scholarship
Elder Kwon Yong-do (KBTUS class of ‘57) sponsors a designated amount every year, and the interest of the accumulated scholarship fund is used to support students who have excellent grades but a poor family background.
Elder Kwon Yong-do (Class of ‘57) who sponsors a scholarship fund every year for Korea Baptist Theological University/Seminary (President Kim Seon-bae) visits the school every year and is donating a designated amount (20 mil. Won in 2020). Elder Kwon Yong-do who visited the school to celebrate its anniversary worship service gave his thoughts about donating the scholarship saying, “I thank God for giving me an opportunity to support a scholarship every year for Korea Baptist Theological University/Seminary. I am truly happy when I hear the news from the new president that the school is growing more and more, and I will continue to sponsor and pray for the school.” President Kim Seon-bae expressed his gratitude saying, “I deeply appreciate the support of Elder Kwon Yong-do who has sponsored the school every year including the donation of Ilsongyeon pond. I will make sure your precious donation is given to students who desperately need it.”
Mustard Seed Scholarship is supporting students with poor financial circumstances in each semester with the interest generated from the scholarship fund every year.
Lee Yo-han Memorial Yongdam Scholarship
A scholarship given every year to students with poor family background with the interest of the accumulated scholarship fund. The scholarship was created in memory of the late Lee Yo-han, who was killed by an unexpected accident and was the eldest son of the late Rev. Lee Sang-man (graduated in 1973).
On November 12, 2019 (Tues.) at Korea Baptist Theological University/Seminary (President Kim Seon-bae), there was a ceremony where the family members (Son deacon Lee Seong-hee, deaconness Yoo Hee-seok, deacon Song Seok-won) of the late pastor emeritus Lee Sang-man visited the school to donate 150 million won for ‘Lee Yo-han Memorial Yongdam Scholarship.’
The late pastor emeritus Lee Sang-man, who donated the scholarship, was born in Jochiwon in 1933 and was called by God at the late age of 40 while working as a teacher, and graduated from KBTUS in 1973. He was appointed as the senior pastor of Yongdam Church (currently, Joeun Church, pastor Oh Myeong-seung) located in Sejong city in 1977.
He wanted to raise his eldest son (Lee Yo-han) as a pastor, but due to an unexpected accident in 1978, he lost his son and sent his wife (Yoo Sang-seok) into the arms of God in 1987. Despite such heartbreaking events, he firmly served God’s ministry and was inducted as a pastor emeritus on May 1, 2016, and passed away on October 14, 2019.
The late pastor emeritus Lee Sang-man, while alive, promised to donate 150 million Won as “Lee Yo-han Memorial Yongdam Scholarship” in memory of his eldest son on November 12, 2018 for the development of KBTUS, and first donated 50 million Won on November 15, 2018, and his son, deacon Lee Seong-hee additionally donated 100 million Won on November 12, 2020 upholding his late father’s promise.
Lee Yo-han Memorial Yongdam Scholarship is supporting financially disadvantaged students from low-income families with the interest generated every year.
Deaconess Jeon Bok-dan & Deacon Lee Chang-sik Memorial Scholarship
CEO Lee Se-il of Brentoxphone Co., Ltd., who is the sponsor, signed an agreement to sponsor a scholarship by upholding the will of his deceased parents, and is currently accumulating the scholarship fund. This scholarship will be issued from the 1st semester of 2023.
On October 15, 2020, CEO Lee Se-il visited Korea Baptist Theological University/Seminary (President Kim Seon-bae) and signed a sponsorship commitment to create a scholarship fund in memory of Deaconess Jeon Bok-dan and Deacon Lee Chang-sik. CEO Lee Se-il gave his thoughts saying, “My mother always served pastors when she was alive, and did not disregard people experiencing financial hardship. By upholding her will, I hope this scholarship will be helpful for seminary students preparing to become pastors or missionaries, and I will continue to sponsor seminary students.”
He committed to sponsor 150 million Won as a scholarship fund, and the scholarship was named “Deaconess Jeon Bok-dan & Deacon Lee Chang-sik Memorial Scholarship’ meant to uphold the will of the deceased parents of CEO Lee Se-il. This scholarship will be issued to students from the 1st semester of 2023.
Global Leadership Scholarship
A scholarship given to students chosen to experience Kibbutz in Israel as a 10- year project for fostering global leadership in order to train talented individuals under the support of David & Faith Kim.
Dr. Kim Gyeong-ok, the collaboration professor of KBTUS has already been constantly sponsoring a large amount of money for the development of the school from several years ago. The university is using the fund to carry out not only projects for improving the educational environment of the school such as the remodeling of Global Vision Center and the remodeling of lecture rooms but also a program for sending all the freshmen majoring in theology to Israel so they can experience the local culture and personally visit the Holy Land.
President Kim Seon-bae expressed his gratitude saying, “Since the sponsorship of Dr. Kim Gyeong-ok is a precious devotion of sharing her life with students, we will make good use of the fund,” and said, “During the past year 2020, the ‘KBTUS family community’ has experienced the miraculous blessings in which sponsorship continued to flow in every week, and we are deeply grateful for such support. We will work hard as we pray harder so KBTUS can grow into the world’s best theological seminary that gives vision to enrolled students, pride to graduates, and hope to the denomination.”
Dr. Kim Gyeong-ok immigrated to the US in 1964 and has planted 3 churches including LA Gospel Church with her husband, Dr. Kim Sang-beom (orthopedic). She has also served as a professor at Gateway Theological Seminary (former-Golden Gate Theological Seminary) for 34 years. Currently, she is greatly contributing to the expansion of the kingdom of God with special lectures on multi-culture and global leadership for training younger students while residing in Korea during the semester.
Pi Young-min & Mun Yeong-suk Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship sponsored by pastor Pi Young-min (Mrs. Mun Yeong-suk) in which 10 million Won is given to pastor’s children or financially disadvantaged students every year.
Pastor Pi Young-min who has retired from Gangnam Central Baptist Church visited KBTUS President Kim Seon-bae on June 14, 2019, and donated a scholarship fund of 100 million Won so the president can designate and sponsor a pastor’s child or a financially disadvantaged student.
Pastor Pi Young-min said, “For the past 12 years, I have been blessed by the school while living as a professor and a scholar at Korea Baptist Theological University/Seminary, and I believe I have enjoyed blessings from the denomination as I engaged in pastoral ministry for 16 years. I have retired now, but I want to express my appreciation to the denomination and the school in order to repay the blessings I have received up to now. I hope the younger students, who will shoulder the future of the denomination, study hard and grow into spiritual leaders.”
President Kim Seon-bae replied, “I sincerely thank you on behalf of the school for your generous contribution. The KBTUS community will do its best to produce many faithful workmen for the denomination by instructing and taking care of students with the dedication you have shown us.”
Pastor Pi Young-min has served as the professor of historical theology at KBTUS for about 12 years from 1991, and have formerly held the post of the head of the office of student services and affairs, dean of academic affairs, and dean of the Graduate School of Theology. Afterwards, since 2002, he was appointed as the 2nd senior pastor of Gangnam Central Baptist Church and engaged in pastoral ministry for 16 years. Although he has retired in May 2018, he is still active in leading revival meetings and spreading the gospel at home and abroad.
The school designated this scholarship as ‘Pastor Pi Young-min & Mrs. Mun Yong-suk sponsored Scholarship’ and is issuing a scholarship of 10 million Won to financially disadvantaged students or pastor’s children.
Taeseong Scholarship Association Scholarship
Taeseong Scholarship Association (Chairman Kim Yun-sik) picks students who have an aspiration for pastoral ministry and is faithful in their studies even though their financial situation is poor from the Graduate School of Theology, Graduate School of Church Music (M.Div. With C.M.), Graduate School of Pastoral Ministry, or Graduate School of Missions, and issues a full scholarship (partial scholarship in case of Graduate School of Church Music).
Samae Scholarship Association Scholarship
A scholarship student is selected through the recommendation by the Samae Scholarship Association among students who are the child of a missionary or pastor, students with excellent faith and grades, and visually impaired students.
Jeongil Stolthaven Ulsan Scholarship
Jeongil Stolthaven Ulsan Co., Ltd. (CEO & Elder Lee Seung-man) is donating 2 million Won to financially disadvantaged students every month, and the school selects a scholarship student by receiving applications from students, and supports it as food expenses (living expenses) for the selected student.
